April 30, 2011 – DMI Engineering joins Ready

Fort McMurray-focused DMI Engineering Inc. has joined Ready Engineering Corporation to expand the depth of the electrical and control systems consulting expertise it offers to its industrial customers in Northern Alberta. Operating under the name DMI-Ready Engineering, the newly-acquired Fort McMurray business unit will take advantage of Ready’s business infrastructure to efficiently support its operations, allowing it to focus on offering a broader, more comprehensive base of expertise in a market with which it is intimately familiar.

DMI was formed in 1999 and has co-existed with Ready in the Alberta marketplace providing similar specialized expertise, though largely to different clients. Lee Ready, President of Ready Engineering, explains the history between the two companies: “I met Dave Meier, President of DMI, in 1998 when he was competing with Ready at GKO Engineering. I respected Dave’s technical knowledge and personal customer service, and after Dave started DMI I had always wished that he would consider joining Ready—more than a decade of patience has finally seen it happen! Technically and geographically, the two firms are complementary and highly compatible, allowing us to immediately make offers to customers that neither company could have made individually.”

Dave Meier was equally excited by the opportunity. “Joining forces with Ready Engineering is an exciting and logical development. This accelerates DMI’s growth in capacity to keep in step with the increasing demand for technical expertise in the Northern Alberta market, and allows me to stay focused on our customers. We have worked alongside Ready for a number of years, and are proud to be an integrated element of the newly-combined operation. DMI-Ready Engineering will be able to offer its clients in Northern Alberta significantly expanded expertise and will be able to tackle projects an order of magnitude larger than we could have previously,” says Dave.

March 31, 2011 – Mature Fine Tailings Dewatering Pilot Plant Project

Ready Engineering Corporation has recently been engaged in undertaking an exciting new environmental initiative. In 2009, the Energy Resources Conservation Board issued Directive 074: Tailings Performance Criteria and Requirements for Oil Sands Mining Schemes. The directive requires oil sands mining operators to reduce fluid tailings through fines capture and disposal in dedicated disposal areas. The current project initiative involves scaling up a proven successful laboratory scale plant to a larger pilot plant. The pilot plant technology will process fines, commonly called Mature Fine Tailings or MFT, from oil sands tailings ponds, and convert it into a workable, environmentally friendly cake. The project schedule is very aggressive, with design to start-up to be completed within 6 months.

Ready is providing both the Electrical and Control System Engineering expertise for this project. The customer is benefiting from Ready’s core competencies of industrial automation, and industrial power distribution, and from our ability to meet aggressive project schedules with responsiveness and innovation. Ready’s team is excited to be an integral part of this new technology innovation initiative.

March 3, 2011 – Ready Engineering completes the engineering integration of a Powder Activated Carbon (PAC) injection system and mercury analyzer with existing CEMS and Bailey Infi-90 control systems

Ready integrated carbon injection and mercury analyzer systems into existing multi-unit, coal fired power generation facilities to meet legislated mercury abatement deadlines. The work involved utilizing a combination of serial Modbus and Modbus TCP communication protocols through various gateway hardware, as well as developing PCV graphics and tag databases, and programming logic across MFP02 and BRC400 controllers. The primary development tools were ABB GPI version 3, ABB Composer 5, and various gateway vendor packages, with the final solution being deployed into legacy DAS and CEMS systems running the Bailey PCV HMI, and ABB Infi-90 controls.

Further work will be ongoing to optimize the mercury abatement systems by implementing more advanced control strategies.
