Ready Engineering's ABACAS(Automated Blend And Coal Analysis System) is used in conjunction with on-line coal analyzers to deliver a reliable and functional coal blending automation solution. Generating plants can use this technology to:
- Control heating value, combustion properties, and fly ash production.
- Minimize fouling or slagging events.
- Control sulphur content in response to scrubber performance, emissions license limits, current operations, and forecasted generation needs.
- Reduce plant swings by improving blend consistency.
- Balance heat input requirements, stack opacity limits, and boiler fouling risks.
- Improve electrostatic precipitator performance
- Automatically adjusts feeder rates with changing coal quality.

The ABACAS software package is configured to interface with the customer's existing coal handling controls to achieve target coal qualities, product splits and flow rates. The ABACAS algorithm is designed to deliver coal blending automation while using a single coal analyzer and weigh scale on the blended stream.
The ABACAS software can be customized to site specific needs dealing with parameters including but not limited to:
- Feeder output characteristics.
- Feeder layout.
- Communication protocols.
- Monitoring of request for coal parameters from plant.
- Internal and external alarming.
Ready's ABACAS technology was formerly deployed in TransAlta Corporation's Wabamun and Sundance Generating Plants. At TransAlta, the coal is stockpiled in up to nine reclaim hoppers and is custom blended as required for each of the generating units.
